Meet your neighbor, Will
About
William R. Cunha
Born in Nashville, TN, Will first came to Annapolis as a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy. After graduating in 2011, Will served on various naval ships and in multiple Western Pacific regions, including San Diego, CA and Yokosuka, Japan. Coming off of Active Duty in 2016, he went on to serve as a Naval Reservist while obtaining a Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity from Carnegie Mellon University as a Scholarship for Service student. His dedication to service led him to work at the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Treasury in various cybersecurity-related roles. Currently, Will works at Recorded Future, a global cybersecurity intelligence company.
During Will’s government service, and while living in DC, he bought a sailboat and kept it in Eastport, serving as a COVID distraction and his first “re-introduction” to a City which holds so many fond memories. He met his now husband, Garrett, in DC and they ultimately decided to move to Eastport in 2020, attracted by the charm of the neighborhood and the warmth of their neighbors.
Since 2020, Will and Garrett have started a business, Oscar’s Coffee, with three other business partners, remodeled a home, and started their new life together as a married couple. Although neither Will nor Garrett are born and raised Annapolitans, their experiences have allowed them to get involved within the community and get to know some of the best people they have ever met. Will is actively involved with the Eastport Business Association (EBA), Eastport Civic Association (ECA), and the Eastport Yacht Club (EYC). Additionally, Will is an avid marathon runner and loves to be on the water.
Since Will was young he has always had a desire to serve. From his time as a Boy Scout (earning Eagle) to serving as a Midshipman, Naval Officer, and government servant, answering the call has been a common thread throughout his life, leading him to his next desire of service as Alderman of Ward 8 for his fellow neighbors. To Will, service is a privilege, an honor to wear a uniform or swear an oath to a higher calling. It means sacrifice, hard work, principled compromise, and leadership. These are core values that have served Will throughout his life and career and are the values he will bring to his position of Alderman. No servant leader, whether in government or elsewhere, is entitled to the right to serve his or her fellow citizens - it must be earned and respected, which is exactly what Will has done and will continue to do if given the privilege of serving as your next Alderman.
